Year 2000 countdown script
This is the base script used for displaying the time remaining to Jan. 1, 2000 on my home page and here.

There are those of us who probably won't have our PC CMOS/BIOS updates in time. The following list maps a year from the UNIX date/time epoch (1970) to those beyond 2000 up to and including the UNIX 31-bit apocalypse (2038). Setting the system year in this manner will ensure that the day of the week and leap day are correct. Unfortunately for DOS/Windows environments, years from the DOS epoch (1980) to 1999 don't map to the year 2000.
