Kim's LEGO MindStorms Project Page

History

It all started for me in March this year when I read the April issue of Dr. Dobb's Journal magazine. The editor wrote about the Robotics Invention System and how wonderful he thought it was.   (The article.)   I went down to my local Zany Brainy to check out all the hype. No kits were built up so I could only look at the pictures and print on the box.

I also visited the official home page of the Robotics Invention System and got a lot more information on the capabilities of the various kits and of many robots built by other enthusiasts. Though I wouldn't call the site lame, it does not cater well to true power users.

I performed a Lycos search for LEGO MindStorms and came across the LEGO MindStorms WebRing. What a relief to find an inventor's community devoted to the advancement of the Robotics Invention System :-)

My Setup

My current home setup consists of a two-brick RCX system using one standard issue Robotics Invention System, and one of each a RoboSports and Extreme Creatures expansion set.   I also obtained a temperature sensor, a rotation sensor, a second RCX brick, and an RCX remote control online from the LEGO World Shop.   The development system is an AMD Athlon 600 MHz with 384 MB of memory running NT 4.0 SP6.

Robot Models

I don't have any original designs yet.   Please visit again soon.
